University of Calgary Research receives major funding for lymphatic research

Big congratulations to Dr. Shan Liao on receiving a five-year grant totaling ~ 1 million CAD from the Canadian Institute of Health Research (CIHR) to fund her research project titled “Targeting perinodal adipose tissue for lymphedema therapy”. This exciting news marks, to our knowledge, the first major lymphatic research project funded by an institution in the tri-council. With the successful completion of this study, Dr. Liao and her team will gain valuable insights into the biological roles of fat tissue surrounding lymph nodes as well as its potential involvement in bacterial infection when lymphatic functions are compromised, e.g., in lymphedema patients.
